As part of Irish Design Week 2024, UCC in partnership with the Sanctuary Runners are hosting a workshop on the art of weaving.

Overall Aim: To use the ancient art of weaving to invoke empathy when participants dive into the ‘imagination realm’ of myths, legends and stories of the natural world to make global connections.

Objectives: Participants will: 1. Share and connect through storytelling, the tales of nature and its meaning from cultures across the globe. 2. Respond to storytelling by weaving storied artefacts from up-cycled textiles to create a group ‘story mosaic’ thus fostering compassionate empathy.

Method: Participants will share and listen to myths, legends and stories of the natural world from around the globe. They will weave a response to these stories, created from a handmade loom and using yarn made from upcycled textiles. Finally, they will collectively create a group ‘story mosaic’ and reflect on how this shared artefact demonstrates imagination for opportunity in a New Ireland.
