As part of Irish Design Week 2024, Moondot Music will be hosting a workshop & talk that focuses on the discipline of circular design. It offers a grassroots discussion and debate on key considerations in design, exploring how and why things break.
The talk will address how to design sustainable products, considering materials and construction techniques that support a circular design strategy, alongside exploring green alternatives to plastics and carbon sequestration. It will also explain CITES and other initiatives that have come before. Participants will learn how communities can develop circular systems for the benefit of all. The theme of “Imagination for Opportunity” illustrates how communities can be creative and generate opportunities through a circular economy.
The second half of the event will feature a workshop focused on a grassroots approach to a circular economy. Participants are encouraged to bring broken equipment and instruments to learn why they broke and whether—and how—they can be fixed. The workshop will examine how products can be redesigned and re-evaluated to counteract waste. At the conclusion of the event, the group will plant trees, with each participant receiving a bare root sapling to take home and plant. This activity emphasizes the connection to nature and the importance of designing for a better future for everyone.
