Join Jill & Gill, who will explore the concept of “A Desired Object” by challenging traditional notions of value, desirability, and aesthetics during Irish Design Week 2024.

Participants will engage in hands-on activities to transform discarded materials into captivating pieces of art and functional design. The project invites participants to consider what makes an object desirable: the material, the story behind it, or the craftsmanship that transforms it into something unique.

The hands-on experience reinforces the idea that desire can be cultivated through understanding, creativity, and sustainable innovation. The outcome is not just a visually appealing object but one that carries ethical significance, making it all the more desired.

Typically, a “desired object” is defined by its exclusivity, luxury, or the brand behind it. However, this project aims to subvert those expectations by making waste – often deemed worthless – the foundation for creating objects that spark desire and admiration.

Benchspace Cork is integral to the success of A Desired Object this project. By providing advanced facilities, a collaborative atmosphere, and an ethos aligned with sustainable and experimental design, Benchspace enables Jill & Gill to fully realize their creative vision.
