Irish Design Week 2022

2,350 Attendees. 72 Events. 15 Venues.

In 2022, Design & Crafts Council Ireland brought together the very best minds, makers and designers to celebrate creativity through a programme of 72 events in venues across Ireland.

Workshops, exhibitions, talks and conferences took place throughout Ireland, focusing on why design matters and highlighting issues around sustainability, diversity and inclusion.

Below are some of the highlights from Irish Design Week 2022 Programme, 14-18 November.

Innovation Festival 2022

Circular by Design

The Innovation Festival was a milestone event within the Circular by Design pilot programme. DCCI co-hosted this festival with NCAD & the Creative Futures Academy.

This inaugural programme was designed to explore the urgent need and unique opportunity to transition to a just, circular textiles industry in Ireland and the critical role that design – and designers and makers – play in enabling that transition.

Conversations in Design

Designing for Diversity & Inclusion

Renowned design strategist and innovator Aiyemobisi “Bisi” Williams appeared at Irish Design Week 2022 to lead an important discussion around designing for diversity and inclusion.

She was joined by an expert panel:

  • Deirdre Donnelly (Independent Councillor)
  • Noelle O’Connell (CEO – European Movement Ireland)
  • Shelly McNamara & Yvonne Farrell (Grafton Architects)
  • Rosemary Steen (CEO – DCCI)

The Power of Design

Design Means Leadership

DCCI were delighted to host globally renowned innovator, Bruce Mau, at the National Gallery of Ireland.

Bruce gave a talk on how life-centred design can provide innovative solutions while also accelerating change, making a case for how design and the design process can be utilised to create a better future for Ireland, using bolder and bigger thinking.

Bruce also hosted an exclusive screening of his documentary ‘Mau’ at the Stella Cinema.

Conversations in Design

Designing for Change

The second instalment of Conversations in Design focused on Mental Health and the role architecture has played in developing Kyrie Farm in Kildare.

Hosted by Kyrie Farm founder & CEO, John McKeon, the panel discussion featured:

  • Gareth Maguire (Director – Reddy Architecture + Urbanism)
  • Dr Eoin Galavan (Clinical Psychologist – HSE)
  • Mick Finnegan (Kyrie Farm)
